About NiuRoot LLC

NiuRoot LLC is a California limited liability company based in Saratoga, in Santa Clara County. Its purpose is to use AI to make people's everyday lives more convenient: the management of a home, the household's bills and accounts, and the daily chores that come with them.

Why

A household runs on a long list of routine tasks. Bills arrive from half a dozen companies on different schedules. Rates change, promotions end, a tax installment falls due, a cart is bigger than it needs to be, a valve leaks. Someone in the family is supposed to keep track of all of it, compare the options, and act. In practice the list is too long, the information is scattered across a dozen websites and PDFs, and the jobs that would save the most money or trouble are exactly the ones that need the most looking into.

This is work an assistant can do. Not a chatbot that answers questions about bills, but a system that reads the accounts, keeps the arithmetic straight, watches what changes day by day, and brings the family one thing at a time, with the evidence, when it is worth their attention.

What the assistants are like

homeops, the first product

homeops started as the founder's own tool: a program that pulled the family's electricity, solar, gas and water readings every day and worked out what had actually happened and what it cost. It found the things a bill never shows: a load that had run around the clock for a year, a pool autofill valve topping up thirty gallons a night, a lawn watered in October as if it were June, a rate plan that was cheaper on paper and not on this house's hours.

The same arithmetic now runs for a handful of neighbouring households as an iPhone app, in a private beta. It covers the metered utilities first, and is growing into one place for every routine expense a home has: trash, internet, the property tax, and later the cellphone bill, insurance and the other fixed costs with a date on them. How homeops works →

Where this goes

Bills are the first chore because they are measurable: the saving can be counted to the dollar, which is how we learn whether an assistant is actually helping. The same approach, the family's own data read carefully, the work done by the assistant and the decision left to the family, applies to the rest of running a home: maintenance that comes due, renewals and appointments, the paperwork a household accumulates, the errands that repeat every week. We intend to take those on one at a time, each one only when it can be done well.
